This proposal is to renovate the former Sacred Heart Rectory, School and Convent building into new affordable housing at 49 Sixth Street in East Cambridge
Preservation of Affordable Housing (POAH) and Urban Spaces are working to transform the former Sacred Heart Rectory, School and Convent into much-needed affordable housing for the residents of East Cambridge. This innovative adaptive re-use will simultaneously contribute critical affordable homes to the community and preserve and restore the beautiful and unique architectural character of these important historic structures.
The buildings will be redeveloped under Cambridge’s Affordable Housing Overly (AHO) ordinance and will remain affordable in perpetuity. The AHO was adopted by the City of Cambridge in 2020 and is designed to promote the creation of affordable housing by streamlining the zoning process.
